Strengthened records management at the PNNK!

The ‘Cataloguing with PMB’ training course took place from 4 to 8 May 2026 at the School of Librarians, Archivists and Information Specialists (EBAD), as part of a capacity-building initiative for staff at the Niokolo-Koba National Park (PNNK) and the National Parks Directorate (DPN). It followed the installation and roll-out of the PMB Integrated Library Management System (ILMS) within the park. Its main objective was to consolidate the participants’ knowledge and enable them to master the key features of the PMB software in order to ensure the effective management of library resources.

This training session brought together two key participants in ensuring the project’s long-term sustainability: the Head of Information, Communication and Tourism Promotion at the PNNK, who also manages the Niokolo-Base database, and the Head of the Library at the National Parks Directorate in Dakar.

The training course, which lasted a total of 20 hours, alternated between theoretical presentations and practical exercises carried out on a test server. The various modules covered general system configuration, cataloguing documents in accordance with current bibliographic standards, the management of periodicals and electronic resources, and the import and export of bibliographic records. The skills acquired were put into practice through exercises in cataloguing, document management and advanced software configuration.

At the end of the training course, participants had enhanced their technical skills in digital document management. This improvement in skills will lead to better organisation, greater promotion and wider accessibility of the Niokolo-Koba National Park’s documentary resources.
