ULB-Coopération and Eclosio share a common vision and complementary missions. By joining forces and combining them with those of our parent universities (ULB, ULiège and UMons), we are strengthening our impact, improving our efficiency and optimising our resources. This merger will enable us to become the leading inter-university NGO in Europe and expand our capacity for action.
The name "Ucoopia" reflects our vision of a fairer world, driven by the values of solidarity, knowledge and academic commitment. It refers to utopia, suggesting our commitment to building a fairer world to which we all aspire. Our logo symbolises this alliance: the interconnection between universities, collective commitment to social change and dynamic shapes that evoke movement, cooperation and openness.
A university NGO is a development cooperation organisation that works in close partnership with the academic world (universities, researchers, students). It mobilises the scientific knowledge, teaching skills and commitment of university communities to strengthen international solidarity.
Ucoopia is an inter-university NGO because it is supported by several French-speaking Belgian universities (ULB, ULiège and UMons) and draws on their expertise to co-construct projects for social change, both in Belgium and in the areas where it operates.
Ucoopia currently brings together the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), the Université de Liège (ULiège) and the Université de Mons (UMons). Our ambition is to extend this alliance to other Belgian and international universities, in particular those that share our values and our approach based on university cooperation.
Even more than today, university collaboration will be central to the actions of the future NGO. With the strength of all the components of the universities (students, researchers, members of the academic and administrative bodies), with the very varied fields of action and research, with multiple places of training, and a great diversity of partners, the many existing collaborations will be strengthened, and new ones will be set up:
- Involvement in research and development projects
- Global citizenship education initiatives on university campuses
- Active participation in the CIVIS and UNIC European University Alliances
- Facilitating access for researchers to areas of intervention in the South, to local expertise and to the NGO's network of partners
No, all current projects will be maintained. The aim of the merger is to consolidate and improve their effectiveness, without any interruption to our beneficiaries.
In the short term, we will remain active in our current areas of operation. In the medium and long term, we may broaden our scope of action as needs and opportunities arise.
The merger brings a number of significant advantages for our beneficiaries and partners. It means that our actions on the ground can be better coordinated, which in turn means greater efficiency. Thanks to the complementary nature of the two NGOs, expertise is shared more widely, enriching the approaches and solutions implemented. This union also strengthens our ability to develop and finance new projects, while increasing our visibility. This will facilitate access to new funding and strategic partnerships.

We regularly offer internship opportunities within our teams in Belgium or in the areas where we operate. These placements are primarily aimed at students from our partner universities, but are open to other profiles depending on the project.
