Partnership for Agroecology Transition, Networking, and Efficient Resilience (PArTNER)

The PArTNER project aims to support family farming in Cambodia to make it more resilient.

Background

Despite socio-economic development over the past decade, poverty and inequality remain major challenges in Cambodia: 80% of the population lives in rural areas and more than 55% work in agriculture. Cambodian agriculture is characterized by small-scale family farming (less than 0.5 hectares per family). Farming families live mainly from a single crop of rain-fed rice. Given the country’s geography and the population’s dependence on subsistence agriculture and natural resources for their income, Cambodians are highly vulnerable to climate change.

Our action

PArTNER aims to support family farming to make it more resilient. The objective is:

  • Increase agricultural productivity through agroecological practices: by strengthening farmers' capacities and technical and managerial innovations, and by paying greater attention to women in order to advance their economic autonomy, while promoting poverty reduction.
  • To increase incomes by improving the value chains of agroecological products, promoting access to remunerative markets, and supporting farming families in their processing and marketing activities.
  • Support farmers' representatives in their advocacy efforts with the private sector and government, promote women's participation in decision-making spaces, and foster coherent policies that favor smallholder farmers.
  • To raise consumer awareness about healthy and safe food consumption, contributing to improved sustainable consumption. These social actions will also promote the role of women in a healthy nutrition strategy.
  • To improve knowledge management in order to influence policy and decision-making in the field of food and in favor of agroecological transition.
