Women's Empowerment and Green Finance Project (PAFIV)
The Women’s Empowerment and Green Finance Project (PAFIV) contributes to strengthening the environmental, social, and economic resilience of vulnerable populations in Gossas and Birkelane.
Background
In Senegal, the agricultural sector is the foundation of the economy in terms of income, budget, and trade balance, comprising nearly 800,000 family farms. Weakened by environmental problems (soil acidification, water and land salinization, degradation of agrosystems) and unfavorable economic conditions (price volatility), the sector is not in good shape. In addition, in Senegal, the desert is advancing every year, threatening the food security of the population. The groundnut basin is also one of the main regions of emigration for male labor, which in turn undermines the socio-economic stability of households.
It is in this difficult context that women, who are the first to be affected by climate change and gender inequality, are supported in improving their environmental resilience.

Our action
The project has two specific objectives:
It aims to establish more inclusive and equitable governance of water management committees for developed hydro-agricultural structures. This will be achieved through better representation and leadership of women within water management committees.
It aims to strengthen the technical and economic autonomy of women’s groups and the financial inclusion of their members in microfinance structures (Village Savings and Loan Associations – AVEC). To this end, the project promotes the adoption of agro-sylvo-pastoral practices.
