Training of trainers on climate-resilient agriculture
Contracting organization:

Background
As part of one of its projects aimed at reducing the vulnerability of small producers to the effects of climate change, the Luxembourg-based NGO ADA called on us to design and facilitate two training workshops for the staff (24 people) of four Decentralized Financial Systems (DFS). These training sessions aimed to:
- Train them in agricultural techniques and practices that are resilient to climate change, as well as solutions to be implemented to promote sustainable development, with a focus on the sectors and geographical areas selected by the four SFDs.
- Strengthen their skills in adult facilitation methods and techniques so that they can effectively pass on the knowledge they have acquired and replicate the training internally.
- Train them on the impacts of climate change in Benin, particularly on agricultural production.
Approach used
The training was designed to be participatory, so that everyone felt free to express themselves and share their experiences and opinions on various issues. The training approach used has the advantage of making participants the true architects of the knowledge and skills they will acquire, with a view to increasing their chances of success and their autonomy in the mission of supporting and sharing the training outcomes internally. To this end, the consultants alternate between theoretical phases, real-life experiences, brainstorming sessions, role-playing, practical phases, and group work. Several media are used, such as videos, technical data sheets, case studies, etc.
The team of consultants also included visits to agroecological farms to enable participants to combine theory with practical examples.
