Support for the development of the North Kivu Provincial Hospital (HPNK+)

Launched in June 2021, thanks to exclusively European funding, the HPNK+ project is a continuation of the PADISS project. It aims to renovate certain buildings in the provincial hospital (such as the emergency room, maternity ward, pediatrics, and surgery), but also to equip them so that they can properly accommodate the most serious cases that cannot be treated in local hospitals.

Financial partner

The project is funded by the European Union.

Objectives

Build and equip new departments to create centers of excellence: emergency rooms, a mother-child center, and a new operating theater, while continuing to provide care to patients during major renovation work.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Impacts

The quality and safety of care provided at HPNK have been improved, and patients and staff are receiving treatment and working in better conditions.

Primary health care services effectively rely on the Provincial Hospital for the functional referral of patients.

Frontline healthcare workers receive clinical support from HPNK specialist physicians.

Actions

  • Conduct preliminary technical studies, including geoseismic studies to ensure the stability of the hospital in the event of a volcanic eruption or earthquake, and technical studies relating to electricity and water.
  • Build and equip new pavilions for emergency services, followed by the mother-child center, and finally the technical facilities for the operating room, sterilization, and laboratory.
