Service: Facilitation of workshops on agroecology and water management
Contracting organization:

Background
As part of its cooperation projects, the NGO Frères des Hommes Luxembourg (fdh Luxembourg) aims in particular to contribute to the resilience of its partners and beneficiaries in the face of multiple crises, one of which is climate change.
To this end, the NGO has committed to strengthening the capacities and resilience of nine of its partners in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Senegal, and Burkina Faso in their strategies to support agroecological transition, water management, and access to land.
In this context, Frères des Hommes requested our support in planning, leading, and facilitating two regional workshops and one intercontinental workshop on these topics.

Objectives
For this consultancy, the following was requested:
- Identify the needs and requests for reinforcement from partners.
- Conduct an assessment of the agroecological transition carried out within the framework of each of the framework program partnerships, in the form of a diagnosis with each partner;
- Facilitate mutual understanding and the exchange of practices between partners in terms of agroecology, water management, and access to land;
- Analyze these practices in light of the multiple dimensions of agroecology and capitalize on best practices;
- Strengthen skills in understanding the challenges of agroecological transition and its systemic analysis;
- Establish a framework for the upcoming 2025 evaluation;
Methodology used
Following analysis of the request, our team proposed using Biovision’s agroecological assessment tool (ACT) to carry out an initial self-assessment of the projects by each partner. This first phase served as the basis for a cross-analysis between partners on the challenges of the transition. The use of this tool also facilitates the identification of a monitoring and evaluation framework for the transitions initiated by the partners.
For this service, Ucoopia consultants worked in pairs in order to systematize discussions while paying close attention to group dynamics. They were particularly attentive to ensuring fluid exchanges and allowing each participant to feel free to express themselves and share their experiences and opinions on various issues.
Since the workshops were based on sharing experiences, several methodologies and activities were organized to fuel the diagnostic, capitalization, and evaluation processes based on the participants’ experiences:
- Building consensus on a common framework foranalyzing the agroecological transition and its contextualized challenges.
- Sharing of best practices and skills by each partner or participant, based on a pre-established framework.
- Co-construction session between partners on various issues related to agroecological transition (technical, political, or methodological aspects, etc.), promoting the analysis of shared experiences with regard to these issues.
- Co-development session to stimulate collective solution building for certain agroecological transition challenges identified by participants.
