Global Opportunity Youth Network (GOYN)

The Global Opportunity Youth Network (GOYN) project is an initiative aimed at expanding economic opportunities for young people in their local areas through multi-sector collaboration and participatory solutions.

Background

According to estimates by the International Labor Office, more than 70 million young people worldwide are unemployed and 145 million young workers live in poverty.

The main cause is rapid population growth, which puts pressure on national and local employment systems that cannot adequately support a large influx of young workers.

Most interventions aimed at addressing this problem remain largely small-scale and are unable to scale up quickly enough to support the growing cohort of working-age youth who need jobs and income.

Our action

The Global Opportunity Youth Network (GOYN) project is a multi-stakeholder initiative aimed at changing systems. The goal? To expand economic opportunities for young people in their communities through multi-sector collaboration and participatory solutions. This innovative approach, supported by the Aspen Institute, emphasizes equity, systems change, and amplifying the voices of young people. CRS and Ucoopia are committed to mobilizing cross-sector partners and funders to develop and expand youth employment initiatives that will impact a significant number of Opportunity Youth in Thiès over the next five years.

One of the most appealing and important features of GOYN is that it gives young people a say in development decisions that affect them and strengthens their capacity to bring about change in their communities. GOYN’s global partners and network of anchor partners offer valuable expertise for the entire youth sector in Thiès. In addition, GOYN can position Thiès as a pilot site for promising large-scale interventions before they are rolled out nationally.
