PAPOTE ET POPOTE

Cooking workshops (la popote) followed by a convivial meal and a chance to chat (la papote) with people who are committed to our food system.

Objectives

Promoting citizen awareness of sustainable food and agriculture through activities, workshops, and community kitchens that strengthen participants’ capacity for engagement. By combining conviviality, accessible good food, culinary learning, and themed meetings, these activities and workshops provided a fertile ground for inspiring exchanges that were then shared more widely.

project timeline

At each workshop, we invited stakeholders involved in sustainable food systems to share information about existing ways to facilitate access to healthy and sustainable food for all and to work together to find ways to promote these alternative channels and their political support. We were fortunate to welcome the following guests to Agricovert:

  • John on the grains and flours from the Tongrinne Mill in February;
  • Pauline Nutrition on legumes in March;
  • and Florence from Bar à Bottes about pick-your-own market gardening in May.

In September, we wanted to invite participants to Ekikrok to enjoy the beautiful weather and, above all, the vegetable garden. The garden is maintained by volunteers and Anne, the market gardener. The group was able to discover the place, its model, and Anne’s experiences as a woman in agriculture

In November, a final workshop was offered, which was also a little special. This time, the popote took place on a Wednesday afternoon to welcome a group of bioengineering students as part of their elective course on food system transition. The papote took place the next day with the group and a total of around 70 people for the big Equi-Tables evening!

Do you regret missing the workshops in 2024-25?

Good news, AgricoTiers is continuing to offer Papote et Popote workshops! Subscribe to their newsletter or visit their website for more information 😊

Tools created

Four fanzines each recount a P&P workshop. This format was chosen by the graphic designer rather than a traditional educational booklet. The back pages contain tips and advice, while the front pages provide information on the topic covered, as well as the famous tried and tested recipes! The 200 copies were printedusing single-color risography, a method with less impact on the environment. You can download the digital version here

Video clips have been filmed and are currently being edited. As part of the food systems portfolio, Marine, Léa, Bénédicte, and Chloé, four students from Gembloux, played an active role in the content by interviewing citizens of Gembloux during the Equi-Tables evening.
