AGRI-vert

Integrated agriculture and resource management for a responsible, cross-cutting environmental vision: “AGRI-VERT”

Guinea has significant natural resources and diverse ecosystems that are conducive to varied agriculture. However, food insecurity is increasingly affecting the population, with 67% of Guineans having inadequate food consumption, particularly in the Kindia and Mamou regions targeted by the project.

The agricultural sector faces several challenges: soil degradation, agricultural practices that are unproductive and harmful to the environment, and a lack of land-use planning. Despite these obstacles, agriculture attracts many well-educated young people who are eager to set up successful and profitable agricultural businesses.

Our action

To reverse this trend, Ucoopia (formerly Eclosio) aims to promote sustainable management of natural resources and adaptation to climate change through its AGRI-VERT project, by strengthening the capacities of local actors.

To achieve this, two specific objectives are being pursued: On the one hand, improving the sustainable management of natural resources in the areas of intervention. On the other hand, encouraging agroecological transition through tailored agricultural support and advice.

With this in mind, several actions will be implemented, including:

  • Training local media and leaders on agroecological transition, and producing radio programs and spots to inform the public.
  • Training stakeholders in soil conservation and water management techniques.
  • The implementation of reforestation and agroforestry initiatives
  • The promotion of green economy activities, such as beekeeping, sustainable livestock farming, and ecotourism.
  • Support for the development of improved cooking stoves to conserve resources.
  • The establishment of Champs Ecoles Paysans (Farmer Field Schools), enabling producers to test agroecological innovations and practices.
  • Supporting local stakeholders (cattle herders, local artisans) to promote the introduction of small-scale mechanization in agroecological fields, using appropriate tools.
  • Inform and raise awareness among households about good food and nutrition practices.
